A dead battery means you need to recharge your battery or get a new one, unless it means your alternator is acting up. Alternators are key to a good working vehicle. Here are the signs your alternator is failing.

Pay attention to what you see, smell and hear to know if your alternator is in a bad state. Do you see a warning light that looks like a battery or shows the letters "ALT" or "GEN" on the console? Does it smell like something is frying or like burning rubber when you drive? 

The car battery usually gets all the credit for powering all the electrical devices in your vehicle, but it does need some help from your alternator. Here are just some of the functions of the alternator in your vehicle.

Your car's battery will send just enough power to the starter motor so the car turns over. Once started, the alternator sends power to things like the stereo, lights, gauges, air conditioning system, and navigation system.
