This morning, Jaguar issued a press release announce its return to global motorsport. Next autumn, the automaker will enter the FIA Formula E Championship as a manufacture with its own team. FIA Formula E is special because it is the first global single-seater electric vehicle championship in the world.

Jaguar Land Rover employs more than 8,000 engineers, and invests more in research and development than any business in the UK. The FIA Formula E will allow the engineers a great opportunity to influence the future of electric vehicle powertrains, including battery and motor technology.

Nick Rogers, Group Engineering Director for Jaguar Land Rover, commented that electric vehicles will definitely play a role in the company's future product portfolio. "It is my belief that over the next five years we will see more changes in the automotive world than in the last three decades," he said. "The future is about being more connected and more sustainable; electrification and lightweight technologies are becoming more important than ever as urbanization continues to increase.
