Whether buying a certified pre-owned car, or a vehicle that's brand new, there's a lot that shoppers must consider. In addition to defining their goals and needs for these purchases, consumers should also develop a comprehensive understanding of the different buyer protections that auto manufacturers provide. At Jaguar Huntsville, we want to help locals learn the difference between powertrain warranties and bumper-to-bumper warranties.

What a Powertrain Warranty Is

A powertrain warranty will cover issues with a vehicle's transmission, axles, driveshaft, and engine. All of these components are essential to an automobile's general operation. They also tend to be among the most costly to repair or replace. However, a powertrain warranty won't cover every feature or component that exists to make a vehicle go. Batteries, drive belts, clutches, and other wear items are the responsibility of auto owners.

Protections Offered by a Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty

Also known as a comprehensive warranty, a bumper-to-bumper warranty will cover everything from the front bumper to the back bumper of your vehicle, excluding the powertrain. This warranty can include your air conditioning and audio systems, all electronics, and many components within the vehicle's suspension among other things. However, despite what their name appears to imply, given that bumpers are considered body panels, bumper-to-bumper warranties won't cover your actual bumpers.
